When to start Christmas pins on Pinterest (2026 holiday timeline)

People plan Christmas on Pinterest long before December. Here's the 2026 week-by-week timeline for holiday pins, and what to post at each step.

Short answer

Start Christmas pins in October, and earlier if you can. Pinterest says holiday activity starts as early as September, and pins need a few weeks to be found in search. Post gift guides and decor ideas through November, switch to last-minute ideas in mid-December, and keep posting through New Year's, since people keep shopping that week.

Why Christmas pins need to go up early

Pinterest is a planning app. People don't open it on December 20 to buy a gift that day. They open it weeks earlier to collect ideas, save them to boards, and come back when they're ready. Pinterest's own holiday guide says holiday activity starts as early as September.

There's also a delay on your side. A new pin isn't shown to everyone the day you post it. Pinterest needs time to understand what it's about and start showing it in search. If you post your gift guide in December, it's often found just as people stop looking.

So the rule is simple: be early. Pins posted in October and November catch the whole season. Pins posted in December catch the tail end.

The 2026 holiday pin timeline

Here's what to post and when. Key dates in 2026: Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, Black Friday is November 27, Cyber Monday is November 30, and Christmas is a Friday.

Don't stop on December 25

Many people stop posting the moment Christmas arrives. Pinterest's holiday guide calls the week between Christmas and New Year's a shopping extension, with many weekly users still buying online. Gift cards, sales, New Year outfits, party food and "new year, new me" content all do well that week.

Have a handful of New Year and January pins ready before Christmas so your account doesn't go quiet right when people are browsing again.

What makes a holiday pin get found

Holiday searches are specific. People don't type "Christmas". They type "Christmas gifts for dad who has everything" or "easy Christmas cookies for kids". Your pins should match those searches:

  • Put the search phrase at the start of the title. "Gifts for coffee lovers under $30" beats "Our favourite things this season".
  • Say who it's for and the budget. "For him", "for teachers", "under $25" are some of the most searched holiday words.
  • Write the same words on the image. People scroll fast and read the pin before the title.
  • Link to the exact page. A pin for "stocking stuffers" should land on the stocking stuffer list, not your home page.
  • Make several pins per page. Three or four different designs for your best gift guide will reach more searches than one.

What to post if you sell products

If you have a shop, think in gift ideas, not product listings. A pin that says "Handmade gifts for new moms" will be found far more than a pin titled with your product name.

Group your products into gift lists on your site (by person, budget or style), then pin each list. Pin single products too, but write their titles as gift ideas. If you sell on Etsy, see how to use Pinterest for Etsy.

What to post if you're a blogger

Your older holiday posts are your best asset. Update last year's Christmas recipes, gift guides and craft posts now, then make fresh pins for them with new images and titles. Pinterest favours fresh pins, even when they point to an older page.

Food bloggers should start Christmas baking and Thanksgiving pins early, since those are some of the most planned recipes of the year. Our Pinterest for food bloggers guide covers what works.

How many holiday pins should you post?

Steady beats a burst. Posting a few fresh pins every day from October to January will do more than 100 pins in one afternoon. Spread them out and keep going. For a starting number, see how many pins a day to post.

A simple plan you can start this week

  1. List every holiday page you have: gift guides, recipes, decor, product collections.
  2. Update anything from last year with 2026 in the title and fresh photos.
  3. Write three keyword-first titles for each page.
  4. Make three to four pins per page with different images and text.
  5. Post a few each day from now until early January, starting with Christmas and gifts.
  6. In mid December, switch to last-minute and New Year content.

Quick answers

When should I start posting Christmas pins on Pinterest?

In October at the latest. Pinterest says holiday activity begins as early as September, and new pins need a few weeks to be found in search.

Is it too late to post Christmas pins in November?

No. November is still busy with gift and Black Friday searches. Start now, post steadily, and focus on gift guides and deals.

Should I post Christmas pins in December?

Yes, but switch to last-minute gifts, stocking stuffers, Christmas Day recipes and New Year content. Big gift guides do best earlier.

Do old Christmas pins come back every year?

Some do, and that's one of Pinterest's strengths. But fresh pins usually get more reach, so add new pins for your best holiday pages each year.
